Let’s Do Lunch

Breakfast gets a lot of credit. But if you ask me lunch is the most important meal of the day.

Lunch is the chance to refuel both figuratively and literally. Lunch is the chance to take a break from emails and deadlines and enjoy a nice hot bowl of something; something that will nourish you and give you energy to finish your tasks when you get back to the office. And there were never so many lunch options for Wallrich until just this week. Below are some of my favorite lunch dwellings within a three-block radius of the Wallrich studio.

Capital Dime, 1801 L Street – Chef Noah Zonca, of The Kitchen, has ventured out on his own and you can expect the same level of service and attention to detail at the Capital Dime. No dish is more than $10 (hence the name) and the sliders and fries can’t be beat. They also serve an amazing spinach dip and the best calamari I have ever tasted.

Plates 2 Go, 1725 L Street – A lunch you can really feel good about. Plates 2 Go is an extension of Plates Cafe, a restaurant run by the St. John’s Shelter for Woman and Children. Here shelter woman work at the cafe and get real on the job experience enabling them to get full time employment, and out of the shelter. The menu changes weekly but they offer a wide array of sandwiches and salads.

LowBraü, 1050 20th Street – A semi-new restaurant serving gourmet bratwurst and duck fat fries. But before you write them off as a greasy spoon, they also serve three different vegan sausages. My personal favorite is the Smoked Apple Sage topped with caramelized onions.

Waterboy, 2000 Capitol Ave. – Who can resist a lunch complete with white linen and sparkling water? I know I can’t. The Waterboy provides the ultimate mid-day getaway. The burger is a Wallrich favorite (rumor has it our CEO ordered it three times in one week) and I can never seem to resist dessert. If you absolutely have to pull double duty at lunch, this is the spot to have a client meeting.

Paesanos, 1806 Capitol Ave. – Ah, here we come back to that bowl of something. Paesanos offers the ultimate in comfort food. If I’m having a particularly taxing day I order fettuccini in cilantro lime cream sauce, topped with chicken so I don’t feel like a complete glutton.

These are only a handful of the spots available for lunch. There are many more options and all within walking distance. So next time you’re in the area stop by our studio to say hi and let’s do lunch.
